A few days ago, a video of a doctor being scolded by Sohag’s Governor went viral on social media platforms, leading to a public outcry.
In the video, a doctor was seen being heavily reprimanded by the governor for presumably denying a child treatment without an entry ticket- which is mandatory for treatment in Egyptian public hospitals.
The video depicted the governor yelling “What are you doing at your desk? you will be referred to investigation. You have no conscience or feelings.”
Quickly after the video went viral, social media users came to the doctor’s aid, arguing that she followed proper procedures and did nothing wrong.
Other doctors quickly shared their experiences with working in public hospitals, and how they were often reprimanded for treating a patient before seeing the entry ticket.

The Egyptian Medical Syndicate released a statement confirming that they’re closely monitoring the incident and that they will do everything in the syndicate’s power to restore the doctor’s respect and to ensure that such an incident doesn’t occur again. The syndicate also assured that proper measures will be taken in order to ensure the safety of doctors in Egypt.
During a press conference after the cabinet’s meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly issued an official apology to the doctor saying that if an executive encounters negligence during a formal visit, they should deal with it professionally, and respectfully, without insulting any employee.
