All You Need To Know About The Daniel Storm Heading Towards Egypt

3 days ago, Daniel Storm, coming from the Mediterranean, hit Libya. The rain overflowed two dams, leading to their collapse, resulting in 2,000 deaths, and 10,000 are believed to be missing due to flooding. 

The eastern city of Derna has seen the worst of the devastation, with as many as 6,000 people missing, Othman Abduljalil, health minister in Libya’s eastern administration, told Libya’s Almasar TV.

The storm had already hit Turkey and Greece before reaching Libya, causing storms, thunder rain, and floods, At least 26 people were killed and 2 others went missing. 

The storm is also approaching the northern coast of Egypt

Due to Storm Daniel’s approaching arrival to the northern shore, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority issued a 48-hour weather warning. The storm is anticipated to begin in the west of the nation and move north, accompanied by rainfall of various intensities that may sometimes reach thunderstorms.

Additionally, the governor of Alexandria has issued a list of precautionary measures to avoid accidents including:

  • Don’t drive over 60 km
  • Don’t park cars underneath fall-risk objects such as trees and lamposts
  • Don’t stand underneath Dilapidated buildings and balconies
  • Make way for rain-clearing vehicles

Egypt Offers its condolences to Libya, Morocco and Sends Humanitarian Aid

This Morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also expressed his condolences for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco and the storm in Libya, declaring a 3-day mourning period, as per the statement made by Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy.

He also directed the Armed Forces to provide humanitarian aid, including relief teams, rescue equipment, and shelter camps, in cooperation with Libyan and Moroccan authorities. 

The Ministry of Endowments has also allocated egp 30 million to Libya, Morocco, and Slovenia after the natural disasters that affected these countries drastically.
