To prevent the misuse of cards abroad, some Egyptian banks are introducing new limits. The Arab African International Bank (AAIB) has temporarily suspended debit card usage outside Egypt and imposed restrictions on credit card transactions abroad. This move aims to safeguard the country’s foreign currency reserves by curbing practices that exploit exchange rate differences between official and parallel markets.
Travelers are encouraged to secure their foreign currency needs through the bank branches before their trips, following the Central Bank of Egypt’s guidelines.
AAIB has set varying monthly cash withdrawal limits for different card levels, ranging from EGP 11,000 to EGP 33,000, along with purchase limits ranging from EGP 50,000 to EGP 200,000.
Banque Misr, a state-owned bank, has introduced monthly cash withdrawal and purchase limits for different card tiers, ranging from $100 to $400.
The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has implemented new purchase limits for different card tiers, ranging from EGP 10,000 to EGP 100,000, and cash withdrawal limits ranging from EGP 2,500 to EGP 10,000.
