The amendments included increasing the fees for the following items: the fee for leaving the country from 50 Egyptian pounds ($1.62) to 100 Egyptian pounds ($3.24), and raising the percentage from 2% of the value of each item purchased from duty-free markets to 3%. Additionally, a 10% customs duty has been added on items such as salmon, shrimp, caviar, roasted coffee, chocolate, headphones, and children’s toys. Furthermore, circus shows, ice skating, diving, and safari trips have been included in the list of amusement taxes

The government had previously submitted a similar draft law eight months ago, which was rejected by the parliament at the time due to its inclusion of provisions that affected a wide segment of citizens by imposing fees on durable goods such as refrigerators and gas stoves.
However, the new law project increases taxes and fees on luxury goods. For instance, it imposes a 10% development fee based on the customs invoice value on items such as salmon, shrimp, lobster, Roquefort cheese, imported fresh fruits, imported chocolates, food blenders, hair styling devices, electric coffee and tea makers, and cigarette lighters

The development fee on leaving the country has been increased to 100 Egyptian pounds ($3.24), excluding foreign tourists visiting only the Red Sea, South Sinai, Luxor, and Aswan provinces, for whom the fee remains at 50 Egyptian pounds ($1.62) only. Moreover, the amusement tax has been increased on various entertainment activities such as disco parties, dancing shows, foreign film screenings, ice skating, hot air balloon rides, and safari trips.
