Attention: Foreign Citizens Must Legalize Their Status By June 30

The Egyptian government called upon foreign citizens residing in the country to refer to The General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality to update and legalize their residency status by June 30th.

They also called upon groups exempted from paying residency fees to go to the General Administration to register their data and obtain a smart residence card to ensure their continued access to services that the government provides.

Additionally, foreigners residing illegally must legalize their residency so long as they have an Egyptian host, in exchange for depositing administrative expenses equivalent to $1,000 at an Egyptian bank.

The cabinet decided a few months back that foreign nationals applying for residency for tourism or non-tourism purposes need to present a receipt showing that they have paid residency fees, late fees, or the cost of obtaining a residency card through authorized banks or exchange companies in US dollars or the equivalent amount in foreign currencies.

This decision came after an International Organisation for Migration study that found more than 9.1 million foreign residents in Egypt, originating from 133 different countries.
