Controversy Surrounds YouTube Channel Featuring Quranic Verses in Musical Format

A recent controversy has erupted on social media regarding a YouTube channel titled “Quranic Songs,” which emerged just days ago. The channel features verses and chapters from the Quran presented in a musical format, incorporating melodies that have sparked outrage among many users. This backlash has led to numerous reports and calls for the immediate closure of the channel.

As videos showcasing certain Quranic chapters set to music began to circulate, a flood of comments emerged, warning the channel owner against continuing this offensive practice. Many users urged him to stop, and there were widespread calls for reporting the channel to YouTube to prevent its further dissemination.

Official Warnings Issued

In response to the controversy, the Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta issued a public warning against watching or promoting videos that combine Quranic recitation with music. They emphasized that such practices are forbidden in Islamic law, as they trivialize the sanctity of the Quran and can lead to a desensitization of its significance in people’s hearts. The official stance encourages avoidance of such content to help eliminate the wrongdoing.

Dar Al-Ifta explained that engaging with these offensive videos contributes to the spread of falsehood and improper practices, which can proliferate through increased viewership. They urged Muslims to take action by reporting these channels, as they are seen as promoting hatred and disrespect towards religious beliefs. This is viewed as a moral obligation to protect the integrity of the Quran.

Prohibition of Musical Accompaniment

The Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta has previously affirmed that reciting the Quran alongside musical instruments is unanimously considered haram (forbidden) by Islamic scholars. This practice undermines the revered status of the Quran and diminishes its importance in the hearts of the faithful. The Quran deserves to be heard in an atmosphere of tranquility and respect befitting its sacredness.

The institution reiterated that all attempts to undermine the Quran have ultimately failed and have resulted in disappointment for those behind such efforts. Conversely, the Quran continues to shine and spread, thanks to divine protection and the steadfastness of Muslims.

Dar Al-Ifta noted that while enhancing the beauty of one’s recitation of the Quran is commendable, it must adhere to the standards of proper pronunciation and rules of Tajweed, as transmitted through authentic chains of narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

A Call for Respect and Integrity

The Dar Al-Ifta appeals to everyone to maintain the sanctity of the Quran and to avoid any actions that might compromise its purpose as a book of guidance. They remind the community that the Quran was revealed as a beacon of light for humanity, containing clear signs of guidance and distinction between right and wrong.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting sacred texts from misinterpretation and misuse, ensuring that they are respected and honored as intended.
