Could Cholera Be Making a Comeback? What’s Really Going On in Aswan

In recent days, a wave of panic has swept through Aswan, leaving many residents wondering: is cholera back? Symptoms Spark Panic in Aswan

It all began when around 124 people were admitted to hospitals, suffering from unpleasant symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. As the number of cases grew, so did the rumors. Some suspected that recent floods and torrents from neighboring Sudan had swept impurities into Aswan’s water supply. Others began whispering about a new illness—one that suspiciously resembled cholera—making its way through the city.

Is the Water to Blame?

However, before panic could fully take root, the Aswan Drinking Water and Sanitation Company stepped in to calm everyone down. They firmly denied that the water supply was to blame, assuring the public that everything was operating as it should. To back up their claims, they dispatched a field committee to inspect water treatment plants and filtration stations, all of which were declared safe and functioning properly.

What’s Really Causing the Illness?

The Aswan Health Directorate also weighed in, providing a more grounded explanation: while hundreds of people might have felt unwell, only 28 cases were confirmed to be caused by seasonal viruses. These viruses, they added, are common during this time of year and certainly not something new or mysterious.

Cholera or Not, Stay Vigilant

So, for now, it seems like cholera is not staging a dramatic comeback. But as always, it’s a good idea to stay vigilant, drink clean water, and listen to health officials. Stay hydrated, stay healthy, and let’s leave cholera in the history books where it belongs!
