As part of the Egyptian government’s efforts to regulate media content and protect it from phenomena that could promote superstition and witchcraft, the National Media Authority in Egypt has announced its decision to ban the hosting of fortune tellers and astrologers on state-owned television and radio programs.

The decision aims to enhance the national media message and raise public awareness about what is broadcast in the media.

According to statements from the National Media Authority, this ban is part of measures to improve the image of Egyptian media and ensure that it reflects national values and principles.

As reported by “Extra News” channel, the Authority emphasized that this step comes at a sensitive time, with tighter scrutiny being applied to Egyptian satellite TV programs amid efforts to develop local media.

This decision is part of a broader series of initiatives the Egyptian government has adopted in recent years, aimed at modernizing Egyptian media and ensuring that it does not host individuals who promote unscientific ideas and beliefs. Through these measures, the government seeks to protect the public from the negative influences that such personalities could cause.

Raising Public Awareness

This move comes after a series of discussions within media circles about the impact of fortune tellers and astrologers appearing on Egyptian programs, particularly as public interest in these practices has been on the rise. Several media campaigns have been launched to raise awareness among citizens about the dangers of falling into such phenomena.

For his part, the head of the National Media Authority, Ahmed Al-Muslimani, called for a future outlook on the region and the world based on scientific thinking, logical principles, and the data of political science and other disciplines, emphasizing the importance of consulting scientists, experts, academics, and intellectuals in this regard.

He also called for avoiding the promotion of superstitions from astrologers and fortune tellers, no matter how famous they may be, as they aim to insult the intellect, trivialize knowledge, and create false fame based on random and unsupported predictions.

The head of the National Media Authority stated that the role of the media is to confront ignorance, promote knowledge, and strengthen logic.
