Egypt Condemned The Shooting In Muscat Which Caused Several Casualties

In a rare attack on the Middle Eastern Sultanate, Last night, a video of people fleeing an active shooting scene in Muscat, Oman, went viral on social media.

The shooting took place in a mosque in Al Wadi-Al-Kabir neighborhood, the east of Muscat, the Sultanate’s capital, leaving at least 9 killed and 30 others severely injured.

Initially, the Royal Oman Police announced that at least four people died and that “several others” were injured.  In a later statement, the police force said five civilians had been killed, as well as a police officer and three suspects. Officers and medical first responders were among the injured.

Pakistani Prime Minister announced in a post on X that at least four of the victims were Pakistani nationals and that dozens of others are currently being treated after sustaining injuries in what he called a “dastardly terrorist attack.”

Currently, Investigations are taking place to determine the reason behind the attack. However, investigators said that “all security measures” had been taken to respond to the situation.

Additionally, The Islamic State extremist group, through an affiliated news agency, claimed responsibility for the attack without providing evidence. It marked the first time that the Sunni Muslim extremist group has asserted responsibility for an attack in Oman.

Such an attack is rare in the Omani Sultanate, as the quiet country maintains a neutral stance, and often mediates in most Middle Eastern conflicts.
