Egypt Warns Israel Against Controlling Philadelphia Axis Near Gaza Border

Manar Eissa

Egypt strongly rejects Israel’s recent allegations of weapons, explosives, and ammunition smuggling from Egyptian territory into Gaza. Diaa Rashwan, the head of the Egyptian State Information Service, called these accusations false and unhelpful for resolving the crisis.

Rashwan pointed out that Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have made baseless claims about such smuggling. He added, “it’s surprising that Israel makes these accusations, considering its military control over Gaza and advanced surveillance capabilities. The allegations lack evidence.”

Claims that smuggling operations occur through trucks carrying aid and goods to the Gaza Strip from the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing are unfounded and ridiculous. Any truck entering the Gaza Strip from this crossing must first pass through Karm Abu-Salem ِ crossing, which is under Israeli authority and inspects all incoming vehicles.

Rashwan clarified that the reason behind Israel’s claims is to justify its ongoing practice of collective punishment, leading to the suffering, death, and starvation of over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza over the past 17 years.

Moreover, the one who receives this aid include the Palestinian Red Crescent and United Nations relief organizations such as UNRWA, providing further evidence of the falseness of Israeli claims.
