Egypt Rejects Regional War Expansion And Voices Support For Lebanon

Manar Eissa

Amid growing regional tensions, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made his visit to the Middle East, arriving in Cairo on Wednesday for a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

During their discussions, President Sisi emphasized Egypt’s firm stance against any escalation of the conflict in the region. He urged all parties to act responsibly, reaffirming Cairo’s rejection of actions that could widen the scope of the conflict. Sisi also expressed Egypt’s support for Lebanon in the wake of the recent attack on its infrastructure.

Additionally, the Egyptian President called for a halt to Israeli violations in the West Bank and stressed the importance of avoiding policies that fuel further escalation against Palestinians, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Ceasefire Efforts

Secretary Blinken’s visit aimed to bolster efforts toward achieving a ceasefire in Gaza while strengthening bilateral relations with Egypt. The visit comes at a critical time, as concerns grow over escalating violence in the Middle East. Hezbollah has recently vowed retaliation against Israel, blaming it for explosions that rocked Lebanon on Tuesday.

The blasts resulted in the deaths of 13 people, including 11 Hezbollah members, and injured nearly 3,000 others.

The talks also covered broader regional developments, with President Sisi reiterating Egypt’s rejection of regional escalation and calling for calm. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty in the aftermath of the cyber attack it recently faced.
