Egypt’s Haydy Morsy and Amira Kandil had a winning streak on home soil at the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Championships in Alexandria yesterday.
They were one of only six to get a perfect score of 300 in the equestrian component, and took the lead by winning the fencing competition, and they never lost it.
Morsy and Kandil won the laser-run with a seven-second advantage over the competition in 14 minutes, 5 seconds, which was the second-fastest time in the field.
Mariana Arceo and Mayan Oliver of Mexico won the silver medal with a lightning-fast 13:50 laser run.
In yesterday’s men’s relay, Egypt came in second place while first place was won by the South Korean team of Jun Woong-tae and Jung Jin-hwa,
