First Complete Zodiac Uncovered In Egypt

You can now visit the temple and check out the colorful zodiac on the ceiling after being covered with thick layers of dirt over the years! An Egyptian-German mission carried out the restoration and cleaning project which lasted for almost 5 years. The restoration project led to the uncovering f the first-ever complete zodiac in Egypt’s Esna temple in Luxor.

The ceiling contains colorful pictures of the twelve zodiac signs as well as outer space planets such as Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn. They also display the seven-arrow constellations that were used by ancient Egyptians to measure time.

Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of The Supreme Council of Antiquities said that the colorful ceilings depict deities, animals, and names of divine figures. The Zodiac became very popular as it was used to decorate private tombs and sarcophagi.
