Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend U.S. military operations in the region for two weeks, describing the move as a significant and positive step toward de-escalation.

The ministry emphasized that this pause helps contain tensions, protect regional and global security, and provides a critical window for renewed diplomacy between the United States and Iran.

Hours before the ceasefire announcement, Egypt intensified its diplomatic efforts.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, to contain rising tensions and push for a ceasefire.

According to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, Egypt acted as a crucial behind-the-scenes bridge, helping bring the U.S. and Iran closer to agreement and creating an environment conducive to dialogue and calm.

Egypt’s Role in Regional Stability

Egypt also actively rejected attacks on Gulf countries, reaffirmed support for Gulf states and Jordan, and stressed the importance of sovereignty and regional stability.

Coordination continues with Pakistan and Turkey to support ongoing de-escalation efforts.

This diplomatic breakthrough followed a dramatic statement by President Trump warning of a potentially catastrophic situation involving Iran, marking a pivotal moment in regional politics.

Looking ahead, talks are set to begin on Friday in Islamabad, mediated by Pakistan’s Prime Minister.

Tehran’s proposals include lifting sanctions, creating a war-loss fund, potential U.S. troop withdrawal from the Gulf, and recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium in exchange for a pledge not to build nuclear weapons.
