Khaled El Anany To Be Nominated As UNESCO’s General Director

Egypt Announced that it’s going to nominate its former Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anany as the new General Director of UNESCO.

The decision to nominate the former minister was announced by the Prime Minister of Egypt Moustafa Madbouly at a press conference held at the Cabinet building in the New Administrative Capital.

Khaled El Anany has been the first minister since 1966 to hold the dual position of antiquities and tourism at the same time as they were divided into two different sectors.

During his time in the Ministry, he launched numerous new museums along with restoration and preservation projects.

Al Anany affirmed his interest in the position stating that there are millions of children around the world who still up to this day do not receive an adequate education. He also affirmed that material and immaterial cultural heritage is facing many significant challenges due to climate change, war zones, and technological advancements.

During the press conference on Wednesday, El Enany stated that Unseco’s goals of preserving cultural heritage are aligned with Egypt’s when it comes to culture and heritage preservation.
