Egypt’s staggering defeat in the African Cup of Nations has left Egyptian fans shocked, disappointed, and angry.
The Egyptian national team failed to achieve victory during its participation in the 2023 African Cup of Nations, as it qualified for the round of 16 as runner-up in Group Two, after drawing with the Mozambique national team in the first round 2-2, and in the second round with Ghana 2-2, and in the third round of the tournament. In the group stage, the team tied with Cape Verde 2-2.
The team then qualified for the round of 16, without achieving a win, due to Mozambique’s draw with Ghana in the third round.
This led the team to exit the African Cup of Nations in the round of 16, after defeat by the Democratic Republic of the Congo on penalties.
The disappointing defeat urged the Egyptian Football Association to issue a statement, apologizing for the team’s poor performance.

The apology reads, ” The Egyptian Football Association apologizes to the Egyptian fans for the results presented by the national football team during its participation in the 2023 African Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire and for not achieving the ambitions of the Egyptian fans and the goals of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association, which carried out its assigned role of Meeting all requirements and providing all special means to prepare the team before and during the tournament.”
However, that apology was met with requests for the association’s mass resignation, claiming that the association is the one at fault and not the players.

The association announced that an urgent meeting will be held next week to determine the cause of the defeat.
Now, some rumors say that one of the directors, Hazem Emam, is thinking about resigning due to the disappointing result of AFCON.
However, these rumors haven’t been confirmed yet.
