Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate Forms Committee to Monitor Israeli Occupation Crimes Against Journalists

The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate held its first meeting for the establishment of the ‘Committee for Monitoring and Documenting Israeli Occupation Crimes.’ This committee was formed in direct response to an Israeli airstrike that targeted journalists on assignment in southern Lebanon, resulting in the tragic death of Reuters journalist Isam Abdallah and injuries to six other journalists.

The gathering brought together members of the Syndicate Council and the General Assembly to address the continuous Israeli occupation’s crimes against journalists in Gaza, the West Bank, and southern Lebanon.

During the meeting, they shared testimonies documenting the deliberate targeting of journalists in the field while covering the occupation, as well as attacks on journalists’ residences in the occupied Palestinian territories. Al-Balshi also raised concerns about the lack of neutrality in many newspapers, European, and American television channels. In response, the Committee decided to establish groups proficient in various foreign languages to monitor biased coverage and abuses in Western media concerning the conflict in Gaza.

To reveal the initial findings of unprofessional practices observed in Western media since the beginning of the Gaza conflict, Al-Balshi announced a press conference scheduled for Monday, October 16th, at 1 PM. The conference aims to highlight the monitoring efforts and discuss documented instances of media bias, welcoming both local and international media representatives to attend.
