Elevated Penalties: Subway Infractions Face Heftier EGP200 Fines

The Information and Decision Support Center at the Cabinet announced the electronic payment system for railway ticket booking offices, introduced by the Egyptian National Railways Authority. The center noted that the “Credit Cards – Debit Cards” electronic payment service would be available through Point of Sale (POS) terminals for ticket payment and issuance at booking offices.

The center explained on its official Facebook page that 100 electronic payment machines have been provided at 54 stations across the country as a first phase. It further highlighted that the aim is to gradually implement this service at the remaining stations, allowing payment in cash or through smart cards. The payment details are outlined as follows:

  • Payment using credit cards.
  • Payment using Debit Cards.
  • Payment through Point of Sale (POS) terminals.
  • Provision of 100 machines for ticket payment at booking offices.
  • This service is available at 54 railway stations in the first phase.
  • Gradual rollout of the service at the remaining stations, enabling cash or smart card payments.
  • Refund of electronically paid ticket fares through station booking window
