Egypt’s Education Minister Pays A Surprise Visit to “Capital” School in New Cairo

Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, conducted an unannounced visit today, Monday, to “Capital” School in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement. The visit followed a widely reported incident where a student was assaulted by her classmates.

Accompanied by senior ministry officials, including Dr. Ahmed El-Mohamady, Assistant Minister for Strategic Planning and Monitoring, and leaders from the private education sector, the minister inspected several classrooms at the school.

This visit came after the minister had already issued urgent decisions in response to the incident, following the submission of a report by a ministry-appointed investigation committee. The directives included:

  1. Placing the school under administrative and financial supervision.
  2. Permanently expelling the students involved in the assault, barring them from enrolling in any school until the start of the next academic year.
  3. Temporarily suspending students who participated negatively, such as those who filmed and circulated the incident on social media, for two weeks.
  4. Referring all supervisory and monitoring negligence to the ministry’s legal affairs department for further action. The department has also been tasked with monitoring the ongoing public prosecution investigation.

The measures reflect the ministry’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring student safety in both private and public schools.
