After the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State sent emails to scholarship students around the world, informing them that their scholarships had been suspended without any clear explanation about their future status, Egyptian businessman Ahmed Tarek stepped in to offer support.
He announced that he would personally assist some of these students, ensuring that their educational journey continues without interruption. His intervention came at a critical time, as students attending a training camp at The American University in Cairo (AUC) were abruptly instructed by organizers to pack their belongings and return home without prior warning.
This sudden disruption caused by policies issued under President Donald Trump, left many students stranded, uncertain about their academic future and how to proceed.
Many students, particularly those nearing graduation, now find themselves without alternatives, as they had not applied to local universities, relying entirely on USAID scholarships to fund their education.
With their plans derailed, they are left in a state of uncertainty, unsure of their next steps.
In response to this growing crisis, Tarek, in a statement to Cairo 24, explained that he will help some of these affected students enroll in some of the universities in which he has invested.
Additionally, he guaranteed them internships and job opportunities after graduation, offering a much-needed lifeline to those whose futures have been put in jeopardy.
