The Ministry of Interior has announced that foreign citizens in Egypt will now be required to obtain a registration card in order to be able to access the country’s services.
The card will be available to foreigners who are exempted from filing for residency, such as foreigners married to Egyptians.
Foreigners will be able to obtain the card from the Administration of Passports, Emigration, and Nationality.
Starting this June, the services will be available for foreigners with the new registration card.
The Ministry still hasn’t specified the cost of issuance of the card.
However, they announced in the statement that this is part of their efforts to verify the status of foreign citizens in Egypt.
Last August, the Cabinet also announced that foreign citizens in Egypt will be required to residency fees in foreign currency.
Additionally, they advised those who don’t have a valid residency to legitimize their stay on the condition that they have an Egyptian host and pay $1,000 in administrative fees.
This decree was a part of the initiative that aimed to collect more foreign currency amid Egypt’s ongoing inflationary problem that has decreased the country’s currency value, leading to a severe shortage in foreign currency.
