Businessman Confesses to Killing Wife in New Cairo After Violent Dispute

Cairo, Egypt – A businessman in New Cairo has confessed to killing his wife, Maram Osama Al-Amawi, after a violent altercation, which occurred following a marital dispute. The shocking incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the tragic consequences of unresolved conflicts.

The accused, a 32-year-old businessman, explained in his statement to Cairo detectives that he had been married to Maram for a year. He revealed that he had a son from a previous marriage, while his wife had two daughters from her previous marriage. The couple, despite seeming to have a stable relationship, had occasional disagreements, which escalated into a violent confrontation on the day of the incident. The businessman admitted to strangling his wife, resulting in a deep injury to her throat. He maintained that he never intended to kill her, saying, “I did not mean to do anything like this.”

Following the incident, the businessman claimed that he was unaware of the severity of Maram’s injuries. For five days, she remained at home suffering from the injury while he attempted to find a specialist for her condition, even asking for help from friends online. He eventually transferred her to the hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator and underwent six surgeries in a bid to save her life. Despite these efforts, Maram succumbed to her injuries.

An autopsy confirmed that Maram’s cause of death was an 8 cm cut to her pharynx, caused by strangulation, along with abrasions on her neck. The medical report also indicated that she developed a severe infection, with pus found in her trachea and pharynx as a result of the injury.

The victim’s family, speaking exclusively to Sada El Balad, described the horrifying events. They said that after the attack, Maram was left to suffer for days, and only after her condition worsened did her husband seek medical help. “He left her at home for five days before finally trying to find a doctor,” a relative explained.

Investigations by Cairo’s security services, led by Major General Alaa Bashandi, revealed that the couple had married in 2023. Despite having a seemingly stable relationship, tensions had been rising between them, which led to the fatal confrontation. The investigation also revealed that the husband had kept his wife confined to the house while she was in critical condition.

On the day of the incident, Maram was admitted to the hospital with severe injuries, including a deep cut to her throat and neck abrasions. It was soon determined that her husband was the culprit, and he was arrested by Cairo security services.

The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Egypt and the need for better awareness and interventions. The accused is now in custody, and legal proceedings are underway. Maram’s tragic death serves as a reminder of the dangers of unresolved conflict and the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
