After a month passed since the incident, the Ministry of Interior issued a press statement regarding the mysterious disappearance of a Saudi young man in Cairo.

The ministry’s media center said in its statement on Thursday evening that the embassy’s lawyer had drawn up a report stating that Hatun bin Ghazi Shattha suffers from a mental illness and left a rented apartment where he was residing in New Cairo.

Surveillance footage unveiled

Surveillance footage revealed the presence of the Saudi young man, aged 40, next to a passenger bus in the Fifth Settlement area before he disappeared and lost contact with his family. The missing man disappeared on April 22 from New Cairo, and before his disappearance, he was searching for a new apartment in the 6th of October area to move to.

The security authorities at the Ministry of Interior are intensifying their efforts to uncover the circumstances of the young man’s disappearance and locate him, especially after investigations suggested that he was not subjected to any criminal incident.

Authorities have begun searching in cities near the Fifth Settlement area

It was revealed that the Saudi citizen left his apartment in the Rehab area east of Cairo, leaving all his belongings behind, and communication with him was cut off. The Egyptian security authorities issued a circular with the citizen’s information and photo, which was sent to all governorates and security directorates for search.

Authorities have begun searching in cities near the Fifth Settlement area, as well as intensifying the search in the 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed areas. Egyptian citizens were urged to contact the police if they find him.

Security authorities are tracking the Saudi citizen’s route from the last point he appeared in surveillance cameras to find a clue leading to his whereabouts.

Investigations in progress

The Saudi Embassy in Cairo announced on Thursday, in an official statement, that since the first day of the Saudi citizen’s disappearance in Cairo, it has initiated procedures and contacts with official and security authorities in Egypt, which immediately began search procedures and investigations into the citizen’s disappearance, using available surveillance cameras.

The footage from the surveillance cameras recorded the Saudi citizen leaving his house, and the embassy added that it is in contact with the citizen’s family and security authorities, following the search operations for him.

It is worth mentioning that Shattha is married and has a daughter, and he recently went to Egypt to study and develop his expertise in his field of work in training consultations.
