Mohamed Rayan, a 30-year-old Egyptian expat from Port Said, was shot and killed while working at a restaurant in North Carolina, USA. According to Cairo24, the incident occurred two weeks ago about an hour before sunset during Ramadan, while he was fasting and performing his shift.
Authorities confirmed that he was struck by five bullets, hitting him in the head and chest, and died instantly at the scene.
Witnesses said the situation began when a young American girl inside the restaurant asked for water. Mohamed brought her a glass. A coworker named Isaiah Rawlinson, allegedly became angry, accusing him of interfering with his duties.
The confrontation escalated quickly. The suspect reportedly pulled out a firearm and fired five shots at Mohamed, killing him immediately.
The attack happened in front of customers. One witness intervened, preventing the suspect from fleeing and detaining him until police arrived.
Security cameras inside the restaurant recorded the entire incident, which helped authorities identify and arrest the suspect shortly after the shooting.
The restaurant is closed until further notice and the next court trial is scheduled on March 18.
Mohamed Rayan, or Mohammed Aly, moved to the United States at the age of 17 to work and support himself and his family. Over the years, he built his life in America while staying closely connected to his relatives in Egypt.
Friends and colleagues described him as kind, respectful, and generous. He was known for participating in charitable activities, helping those in need, and supporting mosque-related community initiatives.
Mohamed’s mother expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her only son, questioning how a simple act of kindness could lead to such a tragedy.
She said his final action, giving water to a thirsty child, reflected the values he believed in: helping others without discrimination.
She added that he had always reassured her about his safety while living abroad, and she never expected his journey to end this way.
