Egypt woke up to an unexpected announcement from the governors of Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubeya: all schools would be closed for the day due to bad weather conditions.
The decision came despite it being a normal school day, with many students scheduled to sit for exams.

The timing of the announcement quickly became the main issue. By the time the news spread, many students had already arrived at school, with some mid-lesson and others preparing to begin their exams.
School buses had completed their routes, and parents had already gone about their day, assuming everything was proceeding as usual.
The late notice left many parents feeling frustrated and caught off guard. Coordinating pickups on short notice proved difficult, especially for working families.
Some were unable to immediately reach schools, while others questioned why the decision had not been made earlier given the weather conditions.
As reactions poured in, some parents and observers suggested that students who had already made it to school should proceed with their exams instead of canceling the entire day.
While the intention behind the decision was to prioritize student safety, the timing led to widespread confusion across the governorates.
