The series “Leh La” season 3 continues to raise thorny social issues, especially those related to women. However, it is receiving backlash over a scene that supposedly insulted the Faculty of Arts – Department of Theater. Sip some tea and keep reading to know more!
The scene was shown toward the end of the eighth episode when a girl had a conversation with a professor at the Department of Theatre. The girl asked that her friend “Nada” loves singing and acting, and she wishes to study there. The professor replied: “We don’t really teach acting. I mean… the Academy of Arts is the one that really works for acting. But we have a theater group that you can try with.”
Egyptian actor Mohamed Aly Rezk criticized the scene and shared his thoughts using a Facebook post. He highlighted thoroughly that the Department of Theatre teaches acting deliberately and lists the stars who graduated from the department. Fathy Abdelwahab, Sameh Hussein, and Yasser ElTobgy are the stars he listed.
Mohamed expresses his care towards a student studying in the department and how he would feel when he knows this is how the media perceives his education.
On Sunday, 9 July, the production company released a statement to respond to the controversy raised by the scene insulting the Faculty of Arts – Department of Theater Sciences. They affirmed their respect for all educational institutions that are making a great effort to educate generations. Furthermore, they cleared that insult wasn’t their intention. The purpose of the scene was to distinguish between theoretical study and practical experience.
In the end, the production company removed the scene from the series to show respect to the department and its affiliates. Mohamed Aly Rezk also posted a video showing gratitude for the understanding of the cast and production company.
