After airing Amr Adib’s episode with former Egyptian MP Samir Ghattas, Tariq Saada, Head of the Media Syndicate, announced that the Syndicate Council is now considering taking legal measures against the journalist Amr Adib due to his professional and legal violations.
Speaking on the program ‘Al Hekaya,’ broadcasted by ‘MBC Egypt, ‘Amr Adib’s episode sparked controversy. During the episode, he interviewed MP Ghottas, and they discussed the tragic situation of Egyptians in Gaza Strip. This discussion was concurrently with bombardment across central and southern Gaza.
Since the opening of the Rafah crossing to holders of foreign nationalities, many Egyptians have faced challenges returning to their homeland. It appears that their exit procedures often encounter difficulties.
This coincided with the statements of former Egyptian MP Samir Ghattas, who stated that Egyptian passports are sent to the Egyptian embassy in Ramallah, which In turn, they send them to the Israeli authorities to ensure that they are not affiliated with Hamas nor Islamic Jihad.
On the other side, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded in a statement, stressing that only the Egyptian authorities are responsible for the procedures for the return of Egyptians from the Gaza Strip to the homeland.
Media figures attack Amr Adib on the Samir Ghettas’s episode
Journalist Osama Kamal, host of the DMC Masaa program on the DMC channel, criticized Amr Adib’s actions with his guest Samir Ghattas.
He stated, “Throughout my media career, I have never spoken about a colleague without defending them. I have only met this colleague once or twice in my life, and the closest encounter was over 17 years ago, with no existing interests between us. When you have a guest who says something for which he is not responsible, it becomes meaningless for him to take responsibility for it. I cannot allow such behavior to continue, and I must verify the facts.”
This is not the first time for Adib to face a backlash. A while ago, Amr Adib faced backlash when he announced on the ‘El Hekaya’ talk show that he had obtained Saudi citizenship and expressed his gratitude towards the Saudi Royal family.
