New Increase in Metro Ticket Prices

The Ministry of Transport has announced that the government will implement a new metro ticket pricing structure effective today, Thursday, August 1, 2024. This decision follows a recent increase in fuel prices and aims to align the fare with current economic conditions. The fare increase will range between 25% and 30%, depending on the number of stations traveled.

The new ticket prices are as follows:

  • For 9 stations: The fare will rise to EGP 8, up from EGP 6.
  • For 10 to 16 stations: The fare will increase to EGP 10, from the previous  EGP 8.
  • For 17 to 23 stations: The price will go up to EGP 15, compared to the former EGP 12.
  • For more than 23 stations: The new fare will be EGP20.

This pricing adjustment reflects recent changes in fuel costs and other economic factors impacting public transportation. Meanwhile, Ministry of Transport aims to ensure that the new fare structure supports the sustainability of the metro system while addressing rising operational costs.
