Metro Tickets Expire In 2 Hours As Fines Apply For Overstaying

Manar Eissa

The Egyptian Metro has introduced new fines to enforce rules and enhance commuter experiences. One key penalty is an EGP 50 fine for staying inside the station over two hours after crossing the barriers without exiting.

It’s worth noting that unused tickets, which have not been scanned for entry, do not have an expiration date and will not incur fines if used in the future.

The company introduced this list of fines to raise awareness among passengers about the guidelines for using metro services. In addition, the Egyptian Metro Management and Operation Company emphasized that various penalties are enforced for passengers who fail to comply with its regulations.

To ensure transparency, the fines and corresponding amounts are clearly displayed across all metro stations. Among the most significant penalties are a fine of EGP 350 for crossing the train tracks and another EGP 350 for smoking inside the metro.
