Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population Establishes 18 Clinics to Fight Violence Against Women

The General Manager of the Motherhood and Childhood Department at the Ministry of Health, Amal Abdel Hay announced that the ministry established 18 clinics aiming at combating violence against women in the country.

This comes in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund.

Abdel Hay also explained that 340 of the best medical staff have been equipped with the latest training and adhere to the latest standards for service provision per updated clinical work manuals by the World Health Organization.

She also announced that 1330 awareness sessions have been delivered to those who frequently visit the clinics.

Additionally, she also mentioned that the department works to raise community awareness, combat gender-based violence, reach women who are exposed to violence, and provide health and psychological support to them and their children.

The clinic also offers First-aid treatment, introduces women to ways to protect themselves from exposure to violence, and facilitates access to supportive services in other sectors that women who are exposed to violence need and want to obtain.

The clinic also contributes to preventing the recurrence of violence by identifying women and their children who suffer from violence at an early stage and providing care and referral services to the competent authority according to their needs.

Clinics to combat violence against women are available in health units in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Dakahlia, Sharqia, Gharbia, Alexandria, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, and Aswan.
