Ministry of Health Bans Smoking in All Medical Facilities

Dr. Husam Abdul-Ghaffar, the Ministry of Health and Population spokesperson, explained that the Minister’s decision also includes prohibiting smoking in institutions belonging to the Ministry of Health and Population and its bodies and affiliates.

He also stated that the managers responsible for these places must take the necessary measures to prevent smoking.

Those managers who fail to adhere to the new decision will be subject to a fine of not less than EGP 1000 and not more than EGP 20,000.

The smoker will also be subject to a fine, of not less than EGP 50 and not more than EGP 100.

Abd El Ghaffar also added that the ban includes all types of smoking in all medical facilities in Egypt that provide preventative, rehabilitative, or medical services.

This decision came within the Ministry’s framework to ensure the citizen’s safety against the dangers of smoking.

This also comes to implement Law 154 in 2007 which stresses the prevention of tobacco damage, which includes the prohibition of smoking in all its forms.

The establishments include various health, educational, and governmental establishments along with sports, social clubs, and youth centers.

The Minister also advised managers of these establishments to adhere to these rules to avoid being fined.
