In response to a viral video on social media alleging demolition activities at the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has issued an official statement to clarify the situation.

The Ministry reassured the public that the activities depicted in the video do not involve any harm to the ancient structure. Instead, workers are removing non-archaeological materials that were added decades ago to hide electrical lighting installations. This process is part of a broader initiative to modernize the pyramid’s lighting system, ensuring the preservation and enhancement of its iconic appearance.

Statement from the Ministry

“The Supreme Council of Antiquities is removing non-original materials from the Great Pyramid. This is part of an initiative to modernize its lighting system. The work ensures the original stones and structure remain undisturbed.”

The Ministry emphasized its steadfast commitment to protecting Egypt’s unparalleled archaeological and cultural heritage. It also urged the public and social media users to verify information from reliable sources before spreading unverified claims, to avoid unnecessary panic and misinformation.

As the modernization work continues, the Ministry has pledged to maintain transparency, providing regular updates to keep citizens and history enthusiasts informed and reassured about the ongoing preservation efforts.

This initiative highlights Egypt’s dedication to preserving its ancient monuments while adapting to modern technological needs.
