Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attributed the recent power outages in the country to a surge in electricity consumption caused by an intense heatwave. Responding to citizen complaints, he explained that the high demand has put a strain on the natural gas network supplying power plants.

To ease the pressure, temporary load reductions have been implemented and will continue until the middle of the following week. Despite reaching record levels of electricity consumption, the ministry assured that it has not exceeded the available capacity, which stands at 44,900 megawatts, with a reserve capacity of 9,800 megawatts. The heatwave has been affecting the entire country, with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority advising people to avoid direct sunlight during this sweltering period.

Starting saturday 22nd july, there will be Scheduled Power Outages Implemented by the egyptian Holding Company for Electricity

the electricity supply will be cut off for 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the top of each hour, provided that the total outage time does not exceed one hour per power cut
