Price Hikes Have Hit Egypt Since The Beginning Of 2024

Since 2024 came, Egypt has witnessed price hikes in six aspects so far:

Starting with Electricity

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has announced an increase ranging from 30% to 35% in electricity consumption segments. These adjustments will be in effect from January 1st to June 30th.

Phone cards and Internet Packages

Moving to telecommunications, significant changes are underway. Phone card prices, monthly billing systems, and mobile internet packages have all experienced a 10% price increase. These hikes, ranging from 10% to 15%, will be applied starting in February.

Moreover, Telecom Egypt such as We, Orange, Etisalat, and Vodafone, has increased prices in the internet packages, starting from January 5th. Internet packages prices will be increase for example, the package of 140 GB is increased to EGP160, instead of EGP120, excluding tax.

Trains and Metro Tickets

The Egyptian National Railway has First and Second-class tickets as it will experience a 12.5% fare increase. Moreover, trains ‘Tahya Misr’ will be increased by 25%. 

As new Metro prices have been announced and implemented. The increase is based on the number of the stations you will take for example 6 stations or 9 stations or 16 stations.

Landline

Lastly, and hopefully, the landline will be the last increase. Telecom Egypt has raised the price of landline phone installation by nearly 100% marking the total expenses for ordering and installing the landline EGP 203.40 instead of EGP 115.03

These price hikes have brought about financial challenges for many Egyptians.
