CAF President Dr. Motsepe highlighted the partnership between CAF and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing their strong relationship and mutual commitment. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming Super Cup final between two of Africa’s top teams, Al Ahly and Zamalek.
Turki Alalshikh, President of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, shared his enthusiasm about hosting the African Super Cup during the Riyadh Season. He anticipates a fiercely competitive match between these two Egyptian football giants. He also expects it to live up to its considerable hype.
This upcoming match marks another instance of Riyadh hosting a duel between these Egyptian rivals; Ahly previously defeated Zamalek 2-0 in the Egypt Cup final in Riyadh last March.
The most recent clash between these teams in the Egyptian Premier League ended controversially, with Zamalek’s refusal to play leading to a 2-0 walkover win for Ahly.
With eight CAF Super Cup titles to their name, Ahly is eager to extend their trophy collection. The Red Devils are familiar with Riyadh, having secured a third-place finish at the FIFA Club World Cup
