A mechanical and biomedical engineer, Sara Sabry was Egypt’s first female Analog Astronaut, and now she’s set an even more impressive record.

Sabry is set to become the first Egyptian in space

Non-profit organization Space for Humanity (S4H), has chosen Sabry to join onboard New Shepard’s 22nd space flight (NS-22).

“I believe that sharing my experience with the world will motivate the younger generation of Egyptians to pursue education and help change the perception of women in the Arab world, showing the world what we are truly capable of,” Sabry said in the official Space for Humanity statement.

Space for Humanity released a video documenting her current journey to become their “CITIZEN ASTRONAUT-2.”

Sabry is only the second sponsored Citizen Astronaut (CA-2) selected by the S4H after Mexican electrical engineer, Katya Echazarreta.

Sabry is also the founder and executive director of Deep Space Initiative, a non-profit aiming to expand space research accessibility.

Sabry graduated from the American University in Cairo (AUC), with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, has a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Polytechnic University of Milan, and is currently pursuing a PhD in aerospace sciences specialising in space suit design.
