Short Circuit Causes A Fire At An Abandoned Hotel In Zamalek

Yesterday night, residents and passersby in Zamalek saw dark smoke coming out of an abandoned 50-floor hotel.

According to Sada El Ballad, the building has been abandoned since the death of the Late egyptian president Anwar EL Sadat.

The fire was spotted coming out of the building’s windows before the concerned authorities arrived at the location of the fire to extinguish it.

After the fire force authority and in two hours, the fire was completely extinguished.

An investigation executed by the Public prosecution concluded that a short circuit ignited the fire at one of the electricity cables.

Thankfully, the tower was completely empty, resulting in no injuries.

History of the Hotel:

The hotel was first built during the late President Anwar El Sadat’s reign, and it won his full support, as once mentioned by the building’s designer and owner Engineer Khaled Fouda.

Comparable to its peers in Western countries, the 50-floor tower was set to become the first skyscraper in egypt, competing with internationally recognized chains.

However, the project was met with many obstacles. One of these obstacles was that the it didn’t have a garage.

A hotel of this magnitude was expected a large number of visitors, who would have nowhere to park and therefore, cause traffic congestion.

Unfortunately, the tower was in the middle of an already-packed area that didn’t have any space for parking spots and therefore, it never opened.
