The Egyptian Engineers Syndicate has decided to form urgent committees of specialized architectural experts and all relevant parties to investigate the queries submitted to the syndicate and the concerns raised on social media regarding the demolition of certain historically and architecturally significant areas in Cairo’s historic cemeteries.
This decision came after multiple users took to social media to express their concerns over the demolition of such areas that shape and encapsulate the historical identity of Egypt.
The committees will communicate with all concerned entities to examine the matter and prepare a comprehensive report.
In a statement, the Engineers Syndicate’s president expressed deep regret over the destruction of some of Egypt’s historic and heritage sites, the latest being the dome of “Mustawlada Muhammad Ali Pasha” in the cemetery of Imam al-Shafi’i.

The Engineers Syndicate also announced its readiness and willingness to assist in finding solutions that achieve urban development without compromising Egypt’s history, utilizing all its resources, specialists, and experts for this purpose.
