Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate declared the following:
EgyptAir actively addressed and dismissed rumors circulating on social media about ticket purchases within Egypt being conducted in US dollars instead of the Egyptian pound. The airline released an official statement asserting that tickets bought within Egypt for flights to international destinations are indeed priced and paid for in Egyptian pounds.
Additionally, EgyptAir clarified that it does not issue tickets for flights originating from outside Egypt within the country, ensuring that domestic ticket bookings are conducted in the local currency. This response follows a social media post alleging the inability to book tickets and pay in Egyptian pounds through the EgyptAir website, claiming that tickets were being priced and paid for in US dollars instead of the national currency.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, issued Circular No. 4 of 2024. The circular prohibits the payment of expenses in foreign currency, specifically the dollar. This is for accrediting international certificates such as American, British, French, and others, with values exceeding the legally specified limits.
Furthermore, Hegazy decided that such payments are in violation of the Central Bank and Currency Law.
At its general session, the Parliament approved delivering pensions and monthly assistance to the elderly at their home for a small fee. The fee would be half a percent of the value of the pension or assistance provided, not exceeding 100 EGP depending on the case.
