Omar Assar Speaks Out on Egypt’s Disappointing Olympic Run

Table tennis champion Omar Assar openly expressed his disappointment with Egypt’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, highlighting a series of missteps by the national federation that he believes derailed his and his teammates’ medal prospects.

“The Egyptian Table Tennis Federation Didn’t Spend A Single Pound”

Assar revealed that the federation failed to invest even a single pound in player development from January 2024 onward. Which was supposedly a period crucial for Olympic preparation. This lack of support, according to Assar, significantly impacted the athletes’ readiness for the games.

Compounding the issues, the federation canceled the essential preparatory camp just three days before its scheduled start. Assar identified this abrupt cancellation as the direct cause of his failure to secure a medal, a sentiment his fellow teammates, also affected by the decision, echoed.

“The President’s Brother Is The Technical Director”

Further stirring controversy, Omar Assar criticized the federation’s leadership, particularly the appointment of the president’s brother as the technical director. He described this move as a clear conflict of interest that complicates the process of resolving any disputes, leaving players like him caught in a difficult position when issues need escalation.

What Do The People Think?

The public and fans, who had high hopes for Omar Assar’s success at the Olympics, share in his disappointment and are increasingly disillusioned with the federation’s handling of Egypt’s Olympic campaign. Assar’s candid revelations have sparked widespread calls for structural changes within the federation to better support its athletes in future international competitions.
