Shocking Scene: Egyptian Footballer Strikes Manager Over Substitution Decision
In a bizarre and shocking incident, a video has gone viral showing an Egyptian footballer attacking his manager after objecting to being substituted during a match in the ongoing Egyptian Premier League.
Pushed the Manager… and Headbutted Him
In the video, Ahmed Abdel Wahid Shaheen of El Mansoura displayed an unusual reaction to being substituted during his team’s match against Al-Mokawloon Al-Arab. He was seen walking inside the pitch for several minutes, deliberately wasting time and ignoring the substitution decision, before exiting the field visibly upset and angry.
The player appeared shocked and angry as the substitution came just 10 minutes after he had entered the game, with his team trailing 2-0 against Al-Mokawloon Al-Arab. After one of the coaching staff approached him outside the lines to try to calm him down, Shaheen pushed him. He then approached the manager, Alaa Nouh, pushed him as well, and headbutted him.
The manager, Alaa Nouh, appeared to embrace the player as he tried to calm him with some words, but Shaheen pushed him away and struck him as Nouh grabbed his shirt—creating a shocking and unusual scene for football fans.
Brother’s Apology… and the Player’s Retirement
Following the incident, the player’s brother published a post apologizing to the manager and the club’s fans on his behalf. He attributed his brother’s unusual reaction to recent pressure, saying: “He’s a 19-year-old player, it’s unfair for all this pressure coming from the media, social media, and everyone.”
Within minutes, Ahmed Abdel Wahid Shaheen himself posted an ambiguous message addressing the situation. In it, he announced his permanent retirement from football, offering his apologies to the fans and the club’s board of directors for his actions during the recent match. He also admitted to his mistake: “I acted wrong.”
Notable Context
It’s worth noting that the match ended in a 3-0 loss for El Mansoura against Al-Mokawloon Al-Arab, worsening their situation as they now sit at the bottom of the league table in 20th place.
