The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, through a joint Egyptian-Japanese archaeological mission headed by Dr. Mustafa Waziri, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Dr. Yoshimura Sakuji, began a project to study and document the granite blocks that represent the outer covering of the pyramid of King Menkaure, located in the pyramids area in Giza, in preparation for its re-assembly.
Waziri expressed his happiness at starting this project, noting that this project would contribute to seeing the pyramid of King Menkaure for the first time, complete with its outer covering as the ancient Egyptians built it, pointing out that the granite blocks for the outer covering of the pyramid were about 16 blocks, of which only 7 blocks currently remain. Only, which is what the project will work on studying, restoring, documenting, and reassembling it.
He added that this project will be implemented in several stages over 3 years, including drawing, photogrammetry, documentation, and laser scanning work, and then the actual start of the work of reassembling the granite blocks.
