Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Denies Demolition Of A Historical Building On Salah El Dein Citadel Premises

A few days ago, a video of a demolition operation went viral on social media platforms. Users quickly gathered that the operation taking place was on the premises of Salah El Dein citadel and expressed their anger.

The official spokesman of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities explained during a phone interview with Lamees El-Hadeedi that “The building in question is part of a large project to develop the castle as a tourist and archaeological attraction, but it is an administrative one and not a historical.”

He added, “This building has been renovated several times, and within the framework of developing the castle as a tourist and archaeological attraction, according to the panoramic view of the castle, we decided that this building had to be demolished, and it doesn’t have any historical value, it’s an ordinary administrative building.”

He continued: “Such a thing can’t be done without proper research, and research concluded that this building is not historical.”
