During El Zamalek’s match against Pyramids FC, Zamalek players Mostafa Shalaby, Mohamed Dunga, and their manager Abdelwahed Sayed had gotten into a physical altercation with one of the match’s organizers.
The altercation led the Emirati organizer to file a police report, leading to the trio’s arrest.
The altercation began due to a misunderstanding between the trio and the organizer, as the organizer celebrated after the Pyramids goal, and he was wearing a red shirt, so the Zamalek players thought that he was supporting a rival team. Mustafa Shalaby was also seen assaulting one of the organizers behind the Zamalek club bench, in a scene that angered the fans attending the match.
Al-Masry Al-Youm’s correspondent confirmed that the UAE authorities decided to release the Zamalek trio after the intervention of the Egyptian ambassador to the UAE at the request of Hussein Labib, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zamalek Club.
Then, The Public Prosecution in the Emirates decided to refer the Zamalek trio to trial last Wednesday, October 23, against the backdrop of the Egyptian Super Cup crisis. The Abu Dhabi Prosecution decided to continue the detention of the Zamalek trio until October 29.
