“We Rejected Sponsorship from Companies on the Boycott List” Hussein Fahmy on the new Cairo Film Festival

The Cairo International Film Festival, one of the most prominent cultural events in the Arab world, is set to launch its 45th edition on November 13. However, this year’s event has taken on a new dimension of significance, as its president, actor Hussein Fahmy, has made a powerful stance in support of the Palestinian cause.

Sponsorship Rejection

In a recent press conference, Fahmy, head of the festival, stated unequivocally that the festival administration will not accept any sponsorship from companies on the Arab boycott list, specifically those perceived as supporting the Israeli occupation.

He added, “our stance is clear: we will not work with entities that compromise our values or that stand against the cause we believe in,” Fahmy affirmed. “This festival is not only a celebration of cinema but also of our shared heritage and identity.”

By embracing this stance, the Cairo International Film Festival sends a powerful message, setting an example for other cultural events and emphasizing the importance of using art and media as platforms for advocacy and positive change.

He also stated that the administration has worked to build confidence among Egyptian sponsors and other stakeholders, while also supporting Egyptian companies and local industry.
