Chaired by Dr. Hala El Saeed, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, the council held a meeting where it was decided that the minimum wage for private sector workers would be raised from 2,700 to 3,000 pounds. Additionally, public sector workers also received a raise of 3,500. This wage increase will take effect starting next July and is expected to benefit a large number of workers who have long been struggling to make ends meet with existing wage rates.

The decision has been widely welcomed by various sections of the society, including workers’ unions and labor rights activists, who have been demanding a fair and just wage system for their employees.

Dr. Hala Al Saeed confirmed that the council’s decision to raise the minimum wage is commensurate with the council’s policy of achieving a balance between the interests of workers and business owners. She also highlighted that it is in line with the current economic changes and high inflation rates. Any decision taken by the council is discussed extensively with all parties and everyone’s interest is taken into account.
