Egypt May Actually Be Hosting The 2036 Olympics

After it successfully submits an application to the International Olympic Committee, Egypt may just become the first African and Arab nation to host the Olympic Games in 2036. Not the winter one, the Summer Games, duh.

Sports minister Ashraf Sobhi said that we’re applying to host the 2036 Olympics

Even though the actual application process for the 2036 Olympics has not yet started, Egypt can anticipate competition from nations like Mexico, Turkey, Germany, Indonesia, India, Qatar, and Russia.

At a live interview in Egypt’s new Olympic Village in the New Capital, Sobhi said that he was merely waiting on the green light from President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to start the application process… and now he’s got it.

President of the IOC, Thomas Bach, came on a visit to Egypt to evaluate the country’s potential to host the event. That’s a little nerve wracking, but it seems to have all worked out!

According to a press release from the government, Bach “confirmed that Egypt’s sporting infrastructure allows it to host the 2036 Olympic Games.”

While in Egypt, Bach visited a variety of institutions, including the Egyptian Olympic Museum, the Egyptian Open, and the Museum of National Civilization, which served as the site of the World Squash Championships in May 2022.

Well, we can only hope for the best!
