Aly was returning from a trip, suitcase in hand, and stepped into an already crowded elevator at a metro station. Inside were passengers, strollers, and children.

Suddenly, an Arab man tried to force his way in with his kids in a large two-seater stroller. When told to wait for the next ride — just a few seconds — the man refused, demanding everyone else get out so he could enter.

From Words to Violence

When Aly asked him to wait, the man shoved him, causing him to fall onto a woman and her kids.

As Aly threatened to call the police and film him, the man blocked the elevator door with his body. Encouraged by the woman behind him to record and report, Aly began filming — but the situation escalated…

The Attack

The man rammed Aly with his stroller, causing his own baby to fall onto Aly.

Then, in front of around 30–40 bystanders, he began choking Aly, digging his nails into his neck, and shouting: “I used to kill men like you all the time in my country.”

No one stepped in to help.

Aftermath and Trauma

Aly managed to break free and call the police. The attacker was arrested, and officers were stunned when they saw the video evidence.

But the emotional impact runs deep. Aly says he now feels unsafe even leaving his home and can’t stop replaying the moment he was left to fend for herself during the attack— surrounded by people who chose to watch rather than act.
