A tragic train accident in Marsa Matrouh has shaken the nation, with the loss of lives and several people injured. Here’s a breakdown of the incident that has left many heartbroken and searching for answers.
On a routine journey from Marsa Matrouh to Cairo, disaster struck when seven carriages of the train derailed. The accident occurred in the area between Fouka and Galal stations in Marsa Matrouh Governorate. In what can only be described as a tragic twist of fate, two of these carriages overturned, causing a catastrophic disruption to the rail service.

According to initial reports, the deadly incident resulted in the loss of three lives and left 54 others injured. The injured passengers were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with 33 victims transferred to Dabaa Central Hospital and 21 others sent to Ras Al-Hikma Hospital. The extent of the injuries varies, but the scenes of devastation were beyond what many could have imagined.
In the wake of the disaster, the Ministry of Transport wasted no time in launching an investigation. Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, visited the accident site personally. During his visit, El-Wazir ordered the formation of a technical committee to thoroughly investigate the causes of the incident. The committee is expected to determine what went wrong and hold accountable anyone found to be responsible for the tragedy.
Minister El-Wazir stated that those responsible for the accident would face the maximum possible penalty. Furthermore, anyone found guilty would be dismissed from their duties immediately. This swift response aims not only to bring accountability but also to reassure the public that safety remains a priority in Egypt’s transportation systems.
