On a recent show appearance, the actor took full accountability for his statement, emphasizing that what he said was wrong, did not reflect his true values, and that it was important to take responsibility for his words.
During the show, host Eyad El Mogy teased Amr about the clip. At first, Amr responded with jokes, explaining that he had been nervous about the audience’s reaction to the film and hungry, which contributed to his poor choice of words.
But then clarified, taking a more serious tone, that his intention was never to promote or normalize such language.
He added, “If a film wants to be daring or push boundaries, it should be through its story and message, not through words used to shock people.”
He acknowledged that saying otherwise was a mistake.
This followed an incident that occurred during the post-screening conference of the film when Amr responded to comments describing the movie as “daring.”
He reflected on how, in the past, people would feel embarrassed to say certain words on TV even though they used them privately, and proceeded to say a swear word.
He argued that using such words allows cinema to evolve, and gives filmmakers freedom to explore topics openly. However, his language quickly went viral, generating widespread criticism on social media.
